Peter Obi Lands in London, Commends Air Peace and Urges Support for Nigerian Businesses

Presidential hopeful and Labour Party leader Peter Obi has arrived in London after departing Lagos earlier today.

He shared the update on his verified X handle, informing his loyal supporters, popularly known as the Obidients, of his movement. Obi did not disclose the purpose of his visit to the United Kingdom.

Before his journey, Obi had appeared in a flurry of media activities across Nigeria. In the last few days, he granted multiple interviews, delivered a Democracy Day address, and held a press conference outlining his vision for a better Nigeria.

His strong media presence has focused on accountability, leadership, and inclusive governance.

Obi Praises Air Peace, Makes Indirect Comment on Airline Incident

The former Anambra State Governor flew on Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous airlines. He used the opportunity to commend the airline and advocate for more support for Nigerian-owned businesses.

In his post on X, Obi wrote, “I just arrived in the UK this morning, on Air Peace from Lagos to London. I have now taken almost a dozen flights to or from London on this airline. I want to sincerely thank the management and staff of Air Peace for their professionalism, consistency, and competence on this route.”

He continued with a message directed at Nigeria’s political class.

“Once again, I use this opportunity to appeal to Nigerian Elites and political leaders to give strong and deliberate support to indigenous businesses. It is never easy to run any business in our difficult environment, let alone highly capital-intensive sectors like air and land transportation, especially given the challenges of competitiveness and rising operational costs.”

His remarks appear to be a subtle reference to an earlier incident involving Air Peace and Senator Adams Oshiomhole. Reports had circulated that Oshiomhole allegedly missed his flight and harassed airline staff after being asked to rebook.

The airline alleged he disrupted the check-in terminal and delayed other passengers. However, the senator denied the accusations, claiming the airline attempted to extort him by demanding an extra fee to modify his ticket.

Support for Local Enterprises Key to Economic Revival, Obi Insists

Obi ended his message with a passionate call for support for Nigerian enterprises. “Nigerian businesses need our encouragement and patronage, not harassment or unnecessary intimidation. Supporting local businesses, particularly those that create massive employment, is critical for job creation, economic growth, and sustainable national development.”

He has long positioned himself as an advocate for homegrown solutions, urging Nigerians to look inward in the search for economic revival and resilience.

His continued travels and public engagements suggest he is preparing for a more vigorous role in Nigeria’s political and economic future as 2027 general elections comes ever closer.
