A fire broke out on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at a hotel in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, where 484 Nigerian pilgrims were staying. The pilgrims, who were in the holy land for the 2025 Hajj, had already left the building for the symbolic stoning ritual in Mina before the fire started.

The affected hotel, Imaratus Sanan, is located on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah. It was occupied by pilgrims under six Nigerian Private Tour Operator Companies. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

According to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the Saudi emergency services and the hotel management responded immediately to contain the fire. Their quick efforts stopped the fire from spreading further.

“The affected hotel, Imaratus Sanan, was hosting about 484 pilgrims from six Nigerian Private Tour Operator Companies. Thankfully, no lives were lost,” NAHCON said.

The commission added that the pilgrims were already in Mina at the time of the incident, performing their religious duties. The prompt action of the fire team saved the building from complete destruction.

NAHCON Relocates Pilgrims, Assures Support

NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Usman, visited the site soon after the incident. He was accompanied by the Commissioner for Policy Personnel Management and Finance and other officials.

“We thank Almighty Allah that no life was lost in this unfortunate incident,” the chairman said.

He immediately ordered the relocation of all affected pilgrims to a new accommodation. NAHCON inspected the new site and finalized arrangements for their resettlement.

Professor Usman also promised that the commission would continue supporting the pilgrims. He assured that every possible help within NAHCON’s capacity would be provided.

“NAHCON will work with the affected Tour Operators to ensure pilgrims are relocated and provided with the necessary assistance,” he said.

The commission expressed gratitude to the Saudi fire department and hotel staff for their fast response and cooperation. It also promised to release more updates if necessary.
