Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reacted to a video posted by his daughter, Jane Eddidiong Ufot. The video, which resurfaced online, contains strong emotional accusations related to the death of her mother, Patience Umo, the former First Lady.
Patience Umo died on September 26, 2024. The video was recorded shortly after her death but has gone viral again during the state’s second anniversary celebrations.
Jane, in the first video, said: “My name is Jane Eddidiong Ufot, SSA to the Governor on Health, Safety and Environment. Daddy, I’m sending this post to you alone. Please, let’s talk before this destroys everything. I am not a sacrifice. Mummy was—I’m not. I give you a few minutes. If you don’t act, I’ll post this everywhere.”
In another video, she was seen with her young daughter and made another troubling statement. “Tell Grandpa, ‘Do you want them to kill us? Do you want us to die like my baby brother d!ed? If I d!e today, or if my daughter d!es—Agimini—if we d!e because God is exposing the truth, so be it. But my blood will not go scot free. Please share this thing—I’m more interested in my life.”
These videos, filled with emotional distress, triggered public concern and raised questions about family tensions in the governor’s household.
Governor Confirms Video Was From Last Year, Says Family Is Together
On Saturday, May 31, Governor Eno spoke with journalists in Uyo and addressed the issue publicly. He confirmed the video was recorded in 2024, soon after his wife’s death.
He said it was now being recirculated by political opponents who want to cause problems in his family and administration.
“We’re in political times, so you expect more of this. My family is intact, you can see everyone here. The video in question was recorded shortly after my wife passed away last year. So why is it resurfacing now, just as we’re marking our second anniversary and celebrating our achievements? It only confirms there are detractors.”
The governor added that Jane was with her husband and that the family remained strong.
He said that losing a loved one affects people differently, especially children, and the emotional trauma had been heavy.
He pleaded with the public not to reopen old wounds.
“I appeal to the public, please stop bringing back sad memories. I’ve lost my wife already. May her perfect soul rest in peace.”
Governor Says Families Should Be Respected in Politics
Governor Eno expressed disappointment that some people were using family pain for political gain.
He said he remains focused on serving Akwa Ibom people and will not be distracted by attempts to create division.
“I remain focused and committed to serving the people of Akwa Ibom. I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on anyone. If those sharing this video wish the same for themselves, I wish them luck. But I believe even in politics, families should be off-limits. I assure you, my family is intact—we are fine.”
Governor Eno said his administration will continue to deliver on promises made to the people of the state. He called for unity and respect among citizens, urging them to separate politics from personal tragedy.
