The Enugu State Government has welcomed the arrest of a wanted ritualist and suspected kidnap kingpin, Obi Levi Obieze. Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service captured him along the Badagry-Seme Road as he tried to flee the country.
Obieze had been on the run after being linked to several cases of abduction and ritual killings. Authorities described his crimes as shocking and disturbing. He is now in custody and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Following his arrest, the Enugu State Government demolished the suspect’s mansions at Umumba Ndiagu, Ezeagu Local Government Area. Officials said the action followed Section 315 (Second Amendment) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 30, of Enugu State.
A government official explained that the law allows demolition of any property connected with kidnapping. The destruction took place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Community and Security Vigilance Praised
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, praised the immigration officers and security teams for their vigilance.
“The Enugu State Government received with delight the news of the arrest of the fugitive suspected kidnap kingpin and ritualist, Levi Obieze,” he stated.
He added: “This arrest has further strengthened our hands in our bid to ensure that justice is served on all the persons involved in the gory incidents of abduction, kidnapping, and ritual killings linked to the suspect.”
Prof. Onyia also said: “The Enugu State Government has already demolished the property in his country home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.”
Call to Communities to Remain Watchful
The state government thanked community members, local vigilantes, and security operatives for exposing the suspect.
“This administration will not condone any form of criminality in our communities under any guise,” the statement continued.
The government also urged traditional rulers, town union leaders, and neighbourhood security teams to be more alert. It warned that anyone shielding criminals will be seen as an accomplice.
“Those who cover up for such criminals will also be treated as accomplices,” the statement concluded.
