The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected a recent statement made by billionaire oil magnate Arthur Eze. Eze had claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for a second term.
Eze made the comment during a public event celebrating Mbah’s second year in office. According to him, the president supports Mbah because of his character and honesty.
“God is a wonderful God. He brought Peter Mbah to change Igboland. Let me tell you, Tinubu has already endorsed him for second term. Tinubu endorsed him for second term because he has character. He is very honest, nobody will stop him,” Eze said.
However, the Enugu APC quickly responded, dismissing the statement as false and misleading. The party described the oil tycoon’s remarks as personal opinions driven by self-interest.
APC Says Arthur Eze Cannot Speak for President Tinubu
The APC said Arthur Eze is not a member of the party and does not represent President Tinubu in any official or unofficial capacity. The party also recalled Eze’s strong opposition to Tinubu’s presidential ambition in 2023.
“In fact, prior to and during the 2023 general elections, Eze was widely known to have openly opposed Tinubu’s presidential ambition, preferring another candidate,” the statement noted.
The party explained that no such endorsement has been made by the President for any sitting governor. It warned that such claims can distort the democratic process.
“Let it be made clear, the President has not made any statement, public or private, endorsing any governor in any state for a second term, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State,” the party said.
Party Urge Focus on Governance and Electoral Integrity
The APC advised Arthur Eze to focus on his private business and stop dragging the President’s name into state politics. It said such actions could mislead the public and harm Nigeria’s democratic progress.
“We urge Mr Eze to concentrate on his business ventures and allow the democratic process to unfold under the Constitution, without resorting to spreading cheap propaganda which could cast Mr President in a negative light both nationally and internationally,” the statement added.
The party criticized the use of President Tinubu’s name to boost Governor Mbah’s administration. It claimed the current state government does not reflect the people’s will and should not rely on false endorsements.
Restates Support for Tinubu and Prepares for 2027
The Enugu APC reaffirmed its commitment to offering a strong opposition in the state. It stressed that the only valid endorsement for a second term must come from the people through the ballot.
It also pledged full support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and promised to present a viable alternative to the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Enugu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s statement was issued under the leadership of Chief Uche Nnaji (Nwakaibie), Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology.
