Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has given the strongest signal yet that he may be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at a state banquet to mark his second year in office, the governor praised the PDP but suggested it might be time for a political shift.
“I respect our party, the PDP. I love the PDP. But we all know the way things are,” Governor Eno said.
He told guests it may be time to “progressively move” on, though he didn’t clearly state which party he may be joining.
Though Governor Eno did not name the All Progressives Congress (APC) directly, many believe he may be planning to defect.
He has recently shown open support for President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
His political relationship with these two top APC leaders is seen as a clear sign of possible movement to the ruling party.

“Whatever happens, wherever the journey of life takes me, I will always love you,” he told PDP members and friends.
“We’ve built strong friendships, and we will always keep them. If you have anything to do, invite me—I will come,” he added.
Eno Says Akwa Ibom Comes First
Governor Eno said his focus remains on the development and peace of Akwa Ibom, not politics.
He said his administration will continue to serve everyone in the state, no matter the political party they belong to.
“It’s time to progressively move. That again will not affect anything in this state. We do not govern based on political affiliations,” he said.
Eno urged political unity and cooperation among all leaders in the state.
“I would love to see all our party leaders seated together like this, across party lines. We must always put Akwa Ibom first,” he said.
He explained that the ARISE Agenda, his government’s development plan, will benefit all residents.
“What matters most is that there is food, security, and welfare for our people. The ARISE Agenda provides for all these,” he said.
“Whenever anyone flies into Akwa Ibom, please drop your party tag and know you are flying into a united Akwa Ibom,” he concluded.
