Nigerian soldiers have successfully repelled coordinated assaults by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in New Marte and Kumshe, Borno State. The operation revealed the military still had lethal power with strengthened ground-air coordination.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of May 27, 2025. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai engaged the insurgents, preventing their infiltration.

“Troops foiled an attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to infiltrate their position in New Marte,” Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed.

Military intelligence guided precision airstrikes and heavy gunfire, eliminating multiple fleeing terrorists.

A similar assault targeted Kumshe’s Forward Operating Base, but troops repelled the attack.

“Regrettably, two soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice during the encounter,” Kovangiya stated.

The operation led to the recovery of an abandoned Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV. Several motorcycles used by the terrorists were destroyed. Blood trails and lifeless bodies confirmed heavy insurgent losses.

Kovangiya emphasized the significance of this victory, stating that efforts to secure the Northeast continue.

“These operations reflect our commitment to restoring peace and enabling socio-economic development,” he said.
