Tobi Amusan Breaks 100m Hurdles at Rabat Diamond League with 12.45s

Nigerian international hurdle sensation Tobi Amusan has claimed a stunning victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League.

Amusan ran a blistering 12.45 seconds, setting a new meet record. This beat the old record of 12.51 seconds, held by American Brianna McNeal since 2018.

Amusan’s time also marked her season’s best (SB) performance, showing that she is gaining form ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

She finished ahead of Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, who came second with a time of 12.67 seconds. Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland came third, clocking 12.69 seconds, also her season’s best.

A Confident Performance from the World Record Holder

Amusan took the lead early in the race and maintained it throughout. Her form and technique were sharp, reflecting her intense training.

This win adds to her growing list of Diamond League victories and builds momentum for her upcoming major competitions.

“I’m just grateful to be healthy and back doing what I love. This is a great way to start the season,” she said after the race.

Amusan currently holds the world record of 12.12 seconds, set at the World Championships in Eugene in 2022. Her new Rabat performance now gives her another record to her name, this time on Moroccan soil.

Other Athletes Also Deliver Strong Performances

Several other athletes in the race also posted strong times and season’s bests. Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji came fourth with 12.71 seconds.

Italy’s Giada Carmassi finished fifth with a personal best (PB) of 12.81 seconds. Elena Carraro came in sixth at 12.89 seconds, while Destiny Huven of the USA followed with 12.93 seconds.

France’s Sacha Alessandrini posted 12.96 seconds, and Karin Strametz of Austria ran 13.08 seconds, her season’s best.

The wind reading for the race was +1.2, which is within the legal limit for record purposes.

Road Ahead for Amusan and Nigerian Athletics

With this victory, Amusan confirms her return to top form and strengthens her standing in the Diamond League rankings.

More hurdles practice, cos I have been doing more sprinting. It was after the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference,” she told reporters during an after-event interview.

Her performance sends a strong message to her rivals as the track season heats up in the build-up to the global championships.

Nigeria’s athletics fans will be watching closely as she continues her journey towards another world title and possibly another world record.
