The Obidient Movement has denied media reports claiming Peter Obi was offered the role of running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The Movement called the reports false and misleading.
In recent weeks, some media outlets have claimed that a political coalition is forming for the 2027 elections, with Obi considered for a vice-presidential slot under Atiku. However, the Obidient Movement says there is no truth in this story.
Nana Kazaure, the group’s Director of Strategic Communication and Media, issued a statement debunking the report. She said the story is completely made up.
“While we are aware that the report is fictional, we are compelled to address it due to the potential for widespread public misunderstanding,” the statement read.
The group clarified that Peter Obi has not been offered any political position. They also said he has not accepted any offer.
Obi Still in Labour Party and Focused on National Issues
The Movement explained that Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party. They added that Obi is still working with other political stakeholders to solve Nigeria’s major problems.
“Without any risk of contradiction, we reiterate that Mr. Obi remains committed to forming alliances that confront Nigeria’s most pressing challenges—rampant corruption, bad governance, widespread hunger, poverty, a broken healthcare system, and millions of out-of-school children,” the statement said.

Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate, has often spoken about the need for responsible leadership. He believes in public service, not chasing political power.
“At this point in time, Mr. Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party. Should that change, he will personally communicate it to the public,” the Movement added.
Call for Responsible Journalism and National Unity
The Obidient Movement advised the media and public to stop spreading unverified news. They said it is important for Nigerians to focus on national development and unity, especially as the country faces serious economic and social challenges.
They urged journalists to focus on facts, not fiction. The Movement also asked the public to stay alert to false reports.
Peter Obi himself has yet to make any public comment about the story.
