Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will headline the 2025 “Things Fall Apart Festival“, a week-long event celebrating Chinua Achebe’s literary legacy.

The festival, organized by the Centre for Memories – Ncheta Ndigbo, will take place in Enugu from June 29 to July 5, 2025.

The festival expands the annual Things Fall Apart Day, now in its fifth year, marking 67 years since the publication of Achebe’s iconic novel. Organizers describe the event as a homecoming, celebration, and movement.

“Adichie, fresh from her worldwide tour for her new book ‘Dream Count,’ joins us to honor one of her greatest inspirations, the legendary Chinua Achebe,” the organizers stated.

Adichie will deliver the keynote address, reflecting on storytelling, cultural identity, and the dialogue between history and identity.

Festival Activities and Special Guests

The festival will feature dramatic performances, film screenings, art exhibitions, memory walks, and tech-driven storytelling. A reimagined Umuofia village experience will immerse attendees in the world of Achebe’s novel.

A major highlight will be the special appearance of actors from the 1987 television adaptation of Things Fall Apart, including Nollywood legend Pete Edochie, who famously portrayed Okonkwo.

The festival will also host youth-focused programs, an essay competition, and salon-style conversations with writers, thinkers, and readers.

The Legacy of Things Fall Apart

Published in 1958, Things Fall Apart remains one of the most influential African novels. It tells the story of Okonkwo, a proud Igbo warrior, and explores themes of colonialism, tradition, and identity.

Achebe’s work has shaped African literature, inspiring generations of writers, including Adichie, who has often credited him as a major influence.
