Lizzy Gold Shares Why Her Dad’s Easter “Thanks” Didn’t Feel Right

Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold Onuwaje has had enough of what she calls the “entitlement mentality” in Nigerian families. And it all came out after what should’ve been a sweet Easter surprise for her dad.

In a funny but honest video on Instagram, Lizzy shared how her Easter gift turned into a not-so-cheerful moment. She said she sent her father a large amount of money, expecting him to be overwhelmed with joy and prayers. But instead, she got a flat “thanks” in return.

She Loves Surprises, But Not This One

“Normally, I always send my father money,” Lizzy said. “I have his account number. So what I do is, at night, I send him money so that when he wakes up in the morning, he’ll see the amount I’ve sent.”

She added that she enjoys surprising him, especially because of the heartfelt prayers he usually says when he gets unexpected money.

“Trust me, I enjoy the prayers, as it gingers me to want to do more,” she explained with a laugh.

But this time, things went a bit sideways.

When “Thanks” Just Doesn’t Cut It

“On Easter day, my father sent me a message: ‘Baby how far na. Do Easter for you papa na’,” she said. “He sent the message in the morning. I pretended like I didn’t see it.”

Then, at 2 am, Lizzy said she dropped a “huge amount” in his account. She went to bed with excitement, already imagining the heartfelt blessings she’d wake up to.

But nope. Just one word: “thanks.”

“After sending him the money, I woke up only to check my phone and see ‘thanks’. No prayers. Nothing,” Lizzy said, clearly disappointed.

She called her father to complain.

“I sent you money. This is 10 times the amount I usually send. And all you could say is thanks? No prayers?”

Her dad calmly replied, “I prayed for you in my heart.”

But Lizzy wasn’t buying it.

“Daddy, I don’t pluck money from trees,” she said. “I work tirelessly for my money. I enjoy the prayers. It gingers me to want to do more.”

The video sparked laughs, nods, and even some debates online. Many followers could relate to family members expecting more but saying less. Lizzy didn’t name the amount she sent, but the point was clear: effort deserves appreciation.

She’s not mad at her dad, though. In fact, it seems like she just wanted to share a message many young earners can relate to—appreciate those who go the extra mile for you, especially when it’s not easy.
