The Qatari royal family plans to gift former U.S. President Donald Trump a luxury Boeing 747-8 plane worth $400 million.
The plane is 13 years old and will be handed over to the U.S. Air Force. It will be upgraded to fit military standards and used as a future Air Force One.
The gift could be the most expensive foreign donation ever received by the U.S. government.
The Qatari royal family, worth around $335 billion, is behind the proposed gift.
Trump’s critics are questioning the legality and ethics of this offer.
Trump Responds to Critics Over Jet Gift
Trump responded strongly on Truth Social.
“So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40 year old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane,” he wrote.

“Anybody can do that!” he added.
Trump is expected to use the aircraft after leaving office. The plane will be transferred to his presidential library foundation, reports say.
The aircraft will allow him continued access even as a private citizen.
Qatari and U.S. Officials Still in Talks
Ali Al-Ansari, Qatar’s media attaché, made a statement on the deal.
“Possible transfer of an aircraft for temporary use as Air Force One is currently under consideration between Qatar’s Ministry of Defense and the US Department of Defense,” he said.

“But the matter remains under review by the respective legal departments, and no decision has been made,” he added.
Trump’s legal team, including Pam Bondi and David Warrington, has filed documents to support the gift.
They say the deal follows U.S. law and the Constitution.
Trump’s 2018 aircraft order with Boeing faced expensive delays, which led to this new option.
He is preparing for a diplomatic tour of the Middle East soon. Qatar is among the countries he will visit.
