Nigeria’s technology scene took center stage as the 2025 Enugu Tech Festival launched with a massive turnout of youths, innovators, and industry leaders.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, declared the event the biggest tech gathering Nigeria has ever seen.
The festival, themed Coal to Code, was organized by the Enugu State government to showcase its transformation from a historically coal-powered economy to a thriving technology hub.
Tijani praised Enugu’s approach, saying:
“Enugu is showing how this should and will be done. I have never been to a technology conference in Nigeria this big. Today, you are part of history.”

He commended the state for moving from policy to action in its drive toward technological progress, noting how investments in digital infrastructure were shaping a new era.
“What is happening today is part of a generational rise, where creativity is being used to shape the future,” he stated.
Governor Mbah: Technology is the Future
Governor Peter Mbah urged Nigerian youths to embrace technology, describing it as the key to future success. He explained how tech has transformed global industries, citing examples like Uber, Tesla, and Airbnb.

“Technology is where the future is. Companies are disrupting industries without owning physical assets. The youth must tap into this new era of innovation,” he said.
Mbah highlighted how his administration had applied technology to improve security, land administration, and education in the state.
Annual Event to Propel Enugu’s Tech Vision
Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, announced that the festival would now be an annual event, symbolizing a paradigm shift from coal dependency to a tech-driven future.
“For decades, our identity was built on coal, but today, we stand in the power of knowledge, innovation, and technology,” he stated.
The event also featured key figures, including the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; tech mogul Leo Stan Ejeh; and Afrinvest Group Managing Director, Dr. Ike Chioke.
