The Federal Government has approved a new digital identity service called NIN Authentication, or NINAuth, for checking and confirming people’s identities.
This announcement came from Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Head of Corporate Communications at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in Lagos on Tuesday.
NINAuth is a digital service that helps verify your identity securely. It uses web, API, and mobile platforms.
According to Adegoke, “The presidency has ordered all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to use NINAuth for verification.”
He explained that NINAuth is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to build a trusted and secure identity system for Nigerians and legal residents.
What NINAuth Will Do for Nigerians
Dr. Adegoke described NINAuth as a system that makes government services safer and easier to access.
NINAuth gives people more control over their personal information. No one can access your data without your permission.
It also supports Know Your Customer (KYC) processes by requiring your clear consent before sharing data with any institution.
This platform can now be used for:
- SIM registration and replacement
- Applying for or renewing international passports
- Tax filing and financial services
- Government assistance programmes
- Driver’s licence renewals
- Other services from MDAs
“With NINAuth, you can verify your identity in real-time using API integration,” Adegoke added.
How NINAuth Improves Digital Security
The NIMC says NINAuth has strong security features to stop unauthorised data access.
You can also control when and how your data is shared, which makes things more transparent and reliable.
NINAuth offers one secure login for different government services. It’s safe, fast, and easy to use.
Adegoke also said the platform helps with database integration across agencies and supports the National Identity Policy.
“The NINAuth application will now be the only approved service for any identity verification using NIN,” he said.
