Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arrested over an alleged breach of contract involving a ₦6.3 million performance fee.
The controversy stems from Portable’s failure to perform at the Kwara Tampan Fiesta 1.0, held on September 29, 2024, at Starwood O2 Arena in Ilorin, Kwara State.
A media aide to the arena’s Managing Director confirmed that Portable received an upfront payment but did not appear for the scheduled performance.
“The arrest is from Starwood O2 Arena over the incident of ₦6.3 million. The MD simply wants Portable to pay back the money,” the aide stated.
Attempts to Resolve the Issue
The dispute has been ongoing since last year, with Portable allegedly requesting another performance instead of repaying the funds.
“We contacted Portable on the day of the event, and he requested an extra ₦500,000 for transportation. Our MD transferred ₦300,000, bringing the total to ₦6.3 million,” the aide explained.
The Starwood O2 Arena insists it is not seeking publicity but simply wants the matter resolved peacefully.
