The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to commence construction on the South-East and South-South segments of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, with official flag-off ceremonies scheduled for April 14 and 16, 2025.

According to Minister of Works, David Umahi, the project will serve as a major economic corridor, boosting tourism, trade, agriculture, aquaculture, and maritime services across the country.

“This highway will feature CCTV surveillance for enhanced safety, sustainable infrastructure with minimal emissions, and environmental conservation through tree planting,” Umahi said in a statement on Monday.

The Akwa Ibom section will be launched on April 14, followed by the Akwa Ibom State spur on April 15, and the Trans-Sahara Road spur in Ebonyi State on April 16.

Umahi assured Nigerians that the government is committed to delivering quality infrastructure while dismissing fears that the highway will impact on private properties along the path as “delusive.”

“Under the leadership of Mr. President, we are determined to deliver awarded projects within record time. Let’s work together toward a brighter future,” he said.
