Governor Alex Otti has told Julius Abure’s camp in the Labour Party to stop fighting and work for peace.
Abure was recently removed as National Chairman of the party by the Supreme Court. The court confirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as the new Caretaker Committee Chairman.
Over the weekend, Otti spoke about the situation during the launch of new leaders for Abia Arise Organisation. That’s his political team preparing for 2027.
He said people have been misrepresenting the Supreme Court’s judgment.
“The party (LP) is bigger and more important than any of us put together,” he said. “The triumph of evil over good is for a moment. So, we thank God for yesterday.”
He added, “I was watching and saw some people making claims about them not being removed by the Supreme Court. We can ignore them, but I will not.”
“I want to appeal to them to give peace a chance. Except, if what they wanted is to destroy the party. If they destroy the party, they will destroy themselves, and the party will become even stronger.”
New Leaders Take Charge of Abia Arise
During the event, Otti inaugurated new coordinators of Abia Arise Organisation.
Mazi Nkem Okoro is now the State Chairman. Mrs. Sophia Chidinma Ikpeama is the Vice Chairman. Dr. Sylvester Ibeneme will serve as Secretary.
He congratulated them and encouraged them to stay committed.
“The decision to appoint new leaders was to inject new blood into the organisation,” Otti said. “It will help us engage the people and get feedback.”
He told the new team to act as the eyes and ears of his administration.
“Every community matters to us,” he said. “Your job is to go into the communities and galvanise support. We need it to build on the gains we’ve made in the last 22 months.”
Otti added that the state had seen serious progress in his time as governor, but there’s more to be done.
He warned against fights within the group and said teamwork is key.
“We created Abia Arise in 2013 to drive development in Abia,” he said. “It played a big part in our move to the Labour Party and the 2023 election victory.”
He also asked the leadership to focus on making the group more visible in all local governments.
“Our board of trustees will support you all the way,” he assured.
Chairman Nkem Okoro thanked the governor for choosing competent people.
“We are proud to support you. We’ll be the backbone of your political engagements and make sure you succeed,” he said.
