Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Anambra 2025 governorship election.

The election happened on Sunday, April 6, 2025, ending officially at about 4:56 a.m.

Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, chaired the APC Electoral Committee. He announced the final results.

Ukachukwu got 1,455 votes. Valentine Ozigbo came second with 67 votes. Johnbosco Onunkwo got 26, Edozie Madu got 8, and 26 votes were cancelled.

After the victory, Ukachukwu said he thanks President Bola Tinubu “for ensuring a peaceful and fair primary.”

“I appreciate the APC National Working Committee, Governor Otu and his team, all my fellow aspirants, and our party delegates.”

He called on other contestants to work with him so the APC could win the November election.

“Let’s come together to win Anambra for APC in November,” he said.

“I’m Ready to Father Myself,” Says Ukachukwu

Referencing his political past, Ukachukwu noted, “I have helped past governors to emerge in Anambra. I’ve played the godfather role. Now, I’m ready to father myself.”

He promised to work hard and earn the trust of party members and Anambra people.

“I’m ready to face Governor Soludo and serve the people well,” he added.

Two aspirants—Obiorah Okonkwo and Chukwuma Umeoji—pulled out before the primary election began. One Paul Chukwuma also left the party before voting started.

In total, 1,630 delegates from all 320 wards in Anambra took part in the primary. Each ward sent five delegates.

Now that he has secured the ticket of the federal ruling party, APC, the battle is open with a formidable Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which has held the state since 2003.

Other contestants include George Muoghalu (Labour Party), and 12 other candidates from different parties.
