Rudiger scored the winning penalty, sealing Madrid’s spot in the quarter-finals against Arsenal. However, UEFA is now looking into allegations of inappropriate conduct during celebrations.
What UEFA Is Investigating
TV footage appeared to show Rudiger making a throat-cutting gesture toward the crowd. Mbappe was also seen grabbing his crotch.
UEFA has assigned an independent inspector to review video evidence. A fine is considered more likely than a ban.
This wouldn’t be the first time UEFA has punished such behavior. In 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico coach Diego Simeone were both fined €20,000 (£16,665) for similar gestures.
The big question is whether UEFA will reach a decision before Madrid faces Arsenal in the quarter-finals. The first leg is set for April 8 at the Emirates Stadium, with the return leg in Madrid eight days later.
