Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved the recruitment of 1,800 staff to strengthen primary healthcare services across the state.
A statement from the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmad, on Thursday confirmed the recruitment, saying it will “directly address personnel shortages in Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities and improve healthcare delivery.”
She added, “This step will significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates and improve the well-being of Kaduna residents.”
The government is also working on upgrading 255 PHC facilities, providing modern medical equipment, and distributing essential drugs across the state.
Hajiya Umma explained that all 255 PHCs will be remodeled and upgraded to Level 2 status. This means they will be equipped to handle conditions such as uncomplicated diabetes, hypertension, severe asthma resuscitation, and assisted deliveries.
“Governor Uba Sani’s administration has prioritized the health sector since assuming office on May 29, 2023,” she said.
The decision conforms with the government’s wider healthcare reforms that it says is targeted at making quality medical services more accessible to every resident of Kaduna State.
