Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has banned visitors and sports journalists from the team’s camp as they prepare to face Zimbabwe in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the decision, saying the coach wants full concentration from the players.
“Coach Eric Chelle is not carried away by the win over Rwanda and is demanding maximum concentration from the players before the Zimbabwe game,” Efoghe said.
“To this end, he has imposed restrictions in and around the team’s camp—no visitors, no journalists.”
Efoghe also explained that the team will allow media access for just 15 minutes during Monday’s training session. A mixed-zone interaction with players will be available on match day.
Zimbabwe’s Strategy for a Tough Encounter
Zimbabwe’s head coach Michael Nees has urged his players to fight hard to secure a crucial victory against Nigeria. The match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Zimbabwe is still searching for their first win in the qualifiers and hopes to move up from the bottom of the standings.
Nees acknowledged Nigeria’s strength but expressed confidence in his squad.
“Nigeria has world-class players and messed up their campaign at the beginning. It’s their third coach in this campaign, and they just won in Rwanda,” Nees said.
“They will come against us with confidence and full force, but so will we.”
He stressed the importance of hard work and mental strength, encouraging his players to embrace the challenge.
“We must accept the challenge—the climate, the pace, the conditions—and enjoy the game. We mustn’t be afraid. The players don’t need to be nervous. They have proven many times that they are very good,” he added.
Zimbabwe Winger Refuse To Cow To Nigeria
Zimbabwe’s winger Tawanda Chirewa also expressed confidence ahead of the match, saying the team has no reason to fear the Super Eagles.
“I am just looking at recovery and going again on Tuesday against Nigeria, which is a very good team,” Chirewa said.
“A lot of their players play in England and Europe. I want to go out there and show what I can do. But our team has so many good players, so we can’t fear Nigeria.”
The match will be the fourth World Cup qualifier meeting between both sides. The Super Eagles have won two of the previous three encounters.
