Gov. Fubara Writes Again To State House Assembly to Represent 2025 Budget Estimates

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has written to the State House of Assembly, informing lawmakers of his plan to re-present the 2025 budget. This comes after an earlier attempt was unsuccessful.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, and addressed to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara requested to present the budget on March 19 or any other suitable date within the month.

The governor explained that his decision followed a Supreme Court ruling and the Assembly’s request for him to formally present the budget again. He reminded lawmakers of his previous visit on March 12, when he and his team were locked out of the Assembly Quarters, where lawmakers were temporarily convening.

Budget Delay and Political Tension

Fubara stated in his letter: “You may recall my failed visit to the Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday, 12th March 2025, for the presentation of the 2025 Rivers State Budget in compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”

According to the governor, despite prior notification, his entourage was denied access to the Assembly premises. He added that a soft copy of the budget notice had been sent to the Speaker, as the Clerk had refused to accept a hard copy from his team.

Before the failed presentation, the Assembly had given Fubara a 48-hour deadline to present the budget, even though his administration had not yet received the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment.

The Supreme Court has directed that all arms of government should exercise their powers and perform their duties within the ambits of the Constitution and ordinary laws of our country,” Fubara stated. “This we must do to end the lingering stalemate and advance the progress of our state and the well-being of our people.”

He stressed that despite political disagreements, the interests of Rivers State and its people must remain the priority.

Fubara concluded his letter by reaffirming his willingness to present the budget and urged lawmakers to set a convenient date within March.
