Political tension remains high in Rivers State as rival APC factions battle over Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s fate. One group wants him out, while another says he should stay.

Tony Okocha, leader of the APC faction recognized by the national leadership, has called for Fubara’s resignation. He claims the governor has committed “multiple impeachable offenses.”

If he refuses to resign, he will be impeached,” Okocha warned. “He has run the state aground and disrespected Mr. President.

He also questioned Fubara’s recent invitation to lawmakers for a peace meeting. “Why did the Secretary to the State Government sign the invitation instead of the governor?” he asked.

Okocha accused Fubara of failing Rivers people. “There is no government in Rivers State. He’s sitting on a keg of gunpowder.

Rival APC Faction Hits Back

But the faction loyal to former governor Rotimi Amaechi disagrees. Led by Emeka Bekee, they say Okocha has no right to make such demands.

Darlington Nwauju, the faction’s spokesperson, accused Okocha of hypocrisy. “He claims Fubara disobeyed court orders, but his own leadership was nullified by the courts,” Nwauju said. “Yet, he still calls himself chairman.”

He described Okocha as a “conflict entrepreneur,” accusing him of tearing down democracy in Rivers State. “The same man talking about disobedience to court rulings is himself standing outside the law.

Governor Fubara Urges Calm

Amid the political storm, Governor Fubara is calling for peace. Speaking at the inauguration of a palace in Akpor Kingdom, he assured his supporters that better days are ahead.

Some of you feel discouraged, but don’t worry. God doesn’t start something and abandon it halfway,” he said. “We will come out of this stronger,” he assured.

The governor promised that his administration will continue to deliver projects that benefit the people. “We won’t stop working for Rivers State, no matter the challenges.”

As tensions escalate, Rivers people, and Nigerians in general are watching closely to see what happens next in the state’s political drama.

The power struggles pits the governor with his erstwhile godfather and predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now holds a powerful position in the federal government. He allegedly wants to maintain a hold on the political structure of his home state.
