The Nigerian army has successfully rescued 75 civilians from Boko Haram’s hold in Sambisa Forest, Borno State. The troops of Operation Hadin Kai, during a clearance operation, destroyed terrorist hideouts and weakened their strongholds.
Addressing journalists on Monday in Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. W. Shaibu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, said the rescued group included seven adult men, 34 women, and 34 children. He spoke through Brig. Gen. A.L. Akpodu, Deputy Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai.
Army Clears Key Insurgent Camps
The operation was carried out by the 21 Special Armoured Brigade and the 199 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Desert Sanity IV. The troops raided terrorist enclaves in key areas, including Ukuba, Ujimla, Sabil Huda, Garin, Fajula, and Gobara.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to rid the region of insurgency, our troops successfully launched clearance operations in Sambisa Forest,” Shaibu said.
He explained that the offensive led to the destruction of several terrorist strongholds, including command centers, weapon storage sites, makeshift shelters, and bomb-making factories.
“This mission significantly weakened enemy capabilities. We neutralized insurgents and destroyed key logistical bases,” he added.
The military has continued similar operations in the region to prevent terrorist groups from regrouping. The Nigerian Army has urged local communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
Borno Govt Assumes Responsibility for Survivors
The rescued civilians were provided with immediate medical care and psychological support. They are now set to be reintegrated into society.
The Borno State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, received the rescued individuals on behalf of the state government.
“We are moving them to our rehabilitation centre, where they will receive support, including mental health services, vocational training, and education for the children,” Gambo said.
She commended the military for their efforts and assured that the survivors would be well cared for before reintegration into their communities.
Security operations in Borno remain ongoing as authorities continue efforts to eliminate insurgency and restore stability in the region.
