The leadership tussle in the Lagos State House of Assembly continues between former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and current Speaker Mojisola Meranda.
The House impeached Obasa on January 13, 2025, accusing him of gross misconduct, abuse of power, and financial mismanagement. Obasa has since filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of his impeachment.
In a surprising turn, security aides attached to Obasa have been restored, while those assigned to Meranda have been withdrawn. An online media source confirmed the development on Thursday, revealing that Obasa’s security aides were reinstated earlier in the morning.
“They have restored all Obasa’s security aides as of this morning,” a source disclosed.
Confirming the withdrawal of Meranda’s security details, her Special Adviser on Information, Victor Ganzallo, expressed deep concern.
“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” Ganzallo said. He also noted the urgent need for a resolution, describing the situation as unprecedented.
“The Speaker is now vulnerable and open to attack. This is an unprecedented situation that requires urgent resolution,” he lamented.
