The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has scheduled its governorship primary election in Anambra State for April 5, 2025.

The sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms priced at ₦5 million will commence on Friday, February 28, 2025. The Nomination Form costs ₦25 million.

APGA has also approved a 5% concessionary rate for female aspirants and persons with disabilities.

The primary process will culminate in a special state congress and governorship primary at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, on April 5, 2025.

The party says it reserves the right to adjust dates if necessary.

The sale of forms will run from February 28 to March 20, 2025, with the screening of aspirants scheduled for March 28, 2025, at APGA’s National Headquarters in Abuja.

INEC Schedules Anambra Governorship Election

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the state’s governorship election will take place on November 8, 2025, in accordance with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires the commission to issue an election notice at least 360 days before the election date.

The formal notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024.

Party primaries are slated between March 20 and April 10, 2025.

The candidate nomination portal will open on April 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM and close on May 12, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025.

Public campaigns by political parties will commence on June 11, 2025, and conclude at midnight on November 6, 2025. Voting will occur across all 5,720 polling units in the state on November 8, 2025.

INEC will provide further details on other electoral activities, including voter registration, transfers, and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Incumbent Gov. Chukwuma Soludo will be warming up for a second term in office, challenged by an array of formidable opposition candidates. The last election in 2021 was hotly contested and nearly marred by a state of insecurity in the state
