Tyler Perry’s Netflix film The Six Triple Eight was the big winner at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, taking home all five awards it was nominated for.

The movie tells the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit to serve overseas during World War II.

The 855 women in this unit worked tirelessly to sort and deliver millions of undelivered letters and packages to U.S. soldiers in Europe.

Kerry Washington’s Emotional Speech

The star-studded event took place on February 22 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, celebrating achievements in film, television, music, and literature.

Kerry Washington won Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance in The Six Triple Eight. She was visibly emotional as she accepted her award.

You know how on awards shows when people look surprised? I never believed they were really surprised until Beyoncé at the Grammys,” Washington joked.

But I’m just shocked. I’m shocked. Because the women that I’m nominated with are so extraordinary. I love you all so much. I’m honored to be in a category with you,” she added.

She dedicated her award to her family, the film’s cast and crew, and the real-life women of the 6888th Battalion.

More Big Winners of the Night

The night saw other major wins in the entertainment world. Keke Palmer was named Entertainer of the Year, recognizing her talent and influence in the industry.
