The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.

A total of 65,023 candidates sat for the examination, which took place in Nigeria between October 25 and December 20, 2024.

According to WAEC’s Acting Public Affairs Officer, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This includes 16,886 male candidates (48.41%) and 17,992 female candidates (51.58%).

Results Breakdown

The results show a significant performance improvement compared to previous years. In 2022 and 2023, 42.16% and 44.29% of candidates, respectively, obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics. This year’s result reflects a 9.35% increase in performance in that category.

Out of the total number of candidates, 62,354 (95.90%) have their results fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates (4.10%) have some subjects still being processed due to errors. Additionally, 2,577 candidates’ results (3.96%) were withheld due to allegations of examination malpractice.

Candidates can check their results and access digital copies of their certificates on the WAEC Digital Certificate platform, on the WAEC website.

Adesina also directed “Candidates whose results were withheld are advised to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal at: https//waecinternational.org/complaints to make representations with regard to allegations bordering on examination malpractice,” Adesina said.

The examinations took place in Nigeria between Friday, October 25, 2024, and Friday, December 20, 2024, while coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts were carried out at five marking venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu and Kaduna from Wednesday, January 15, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
