A 42-year-old Nigerian man, Augustine, believed to have killed his Spanish wife, Catalina, 48, in Benalmádena, Costa del Sol, Spain has been arrested.
Augustine is thought to have also set their family home on fire, where Catalina lived with their three children and another son from a previous relationship.
The incident occurred around 5:25 am on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Augustine first called the 112 Andalucía emergency service system to report the fire at their property in Benalmádena Pueblo but did not mention it was his house.

Local Police quickly arrived at the scene and rescued the children. After extinguishing the flames, they found Catalina inside the house with signs of violence and arrested Augustine as the person allegedly responsible for her death. He is also accused of assaulting the children.
Family Details
The couple had been together for about 13 years and had three children, with the eldest aged around 11 and two younger sisters. Catalina’s mother lived on the upper floor, while Catalina lived on the ground floor.
Sources indicate that Catalina had recently separated from Augustine. The exact motive or circumstance leading to this tragic incident was not disclosed
