Bandits have reportedly kidnapped Brigadier General Maharazu Ismaila Tsiga (retired), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), from his home in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, on Thursday morning.
The assailants also killed one person and abducted at least nine others, in the process, ransacking several homes and stealing valuables.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack began around 12:30 a.m., with the armed bandits shooting sporadically to intimidate residents.
The Katsina State Police however have not officially confirmed this incident.
Brigadier General Maharazu Ismaila Tsiga, born in 1957 in Tsiga, Katsina State, served as the 14th Director-General of the NYSC, assuming the role in January 2009.
He retired after a distinguished service spanning several decades.
Katsina State, and parts of North West has seen a surge in bandit attacks recently.
Only on January 4, a joint security operation reportedly neutralized at least 80 suspected bandits in Jibia Local Government Area, targeting camps in Kadoji, Matso-Matso, Bagga, Dogon Market, and Takatsaba areas.
Notwithstanding, the menace of banditry remains a challenge in the region and appears to be emboldening with the abduction of an ex-army general.
