A United Airlines flight from Houston to New York had to be evacuated Sunday morning after the plane caught fire on the runway while preparing for takeoff. The incident left passengers screaming in panic after spotting flames around the wings.
The Airbus 319, Flight # 1382 had to abort its takeoff from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas just after 8:30 a.m. The FAA said simply in a statement said it was due to a “reported engine issue.”
A video of the incident circulating online shows flames visible on the plane’s wing. In the footage, a flight attendant can be heard instructing passengers to remain seated, while one traveler exclaims, “No, it’s on fire!“
Passengers were immediately taken out of the plane and carried to the terminal by bus. Passengers were evacuated using stairs and the emergency slide.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported. The Houston Fire Department stated they did not have to extinguish a fire related to the incident. It burned out on its own

The flight with 104 passengers and five crew members was rescheduled for later in the day.
The incident took place as two major aviation mishaps shook the country. 67 people died as a military helicopter and an American Airlines plane collided in Washington D.C. Seven people died and 19 were injured when a medical transport plane crashed near a busy mall in Philadelphia on Friday.
