A three-storey building under construction at Regina Caeli Junction in Awka, Anambra State collapsed late Wednesday evening. The cause of the collapse is not immediately known.
However, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, visited the site almost immediately and cautioned developers against using substandard materials in construction. He attributed frequent building collapses in the region to such practices.
Soludo, represented by his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, warned builders to exercise caution when erecting structures and avoid actions that could endanger human lives.

When contacted by phone, the engineer handling the project, Mr. Stanley, said he was trapped in the building alongside two other workers. The three of them were rescued and rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
Present at the scene during the Governor’s visit were health teams from the Ministry of Health, Fire Service officials, among others.
