Gunmen Kidnap Two Catholic Nuns in Anambra State, Police Launch Rescue Operation

Gunmen kidnapped two Catholic nuns on Tuesday evening along Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area in Anambra State.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident. He said, “The nuns were kidnapped while returning from a vocational service meeting in the Ogboji Area.” He also added that “A police-led joint operation is ongoing for the possible rescue of the two Catholic nuns.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Nnaghe Obono, visited the scene with the deputy commissioner.

Mr Ikenga reported that the commissioner said, “The State Police Command is working with some clues to track down the abductors and rescue the victims.”

This incident happened two weeks after gunmen abducted a member of the State House of Assembly, Justice Azuka, on Christmas Eve.

As of the time of this report, Mr Azuka, who represents Onitsha North Constituency I, has not been released.

Earlier in December, unknown assailants kidnapped a retired Anglican Bishop of Nnewi, Godwin Okpala, and his driver. They were only released after almost one month in captivity.
