Opposition politician and Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, has raised concerns about threats to his life due to his outspoken criticism of the government.
In a statement released this evening, the former Anambra Governor called out the Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Felix Morka.
Mr. Obi recently asserted in a media chat last Thursday that the country’s political, economic, and security situation is worsening daily, contrary to the public posturing of Tinubu’s government.
According to him, Nigeria has fallen from being the largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of $574 billion and a per capita income of over $3,500 in 2014, to now ranking fourth on the continent.

In response, during an Arise TV interview, Felix Morka said Peter Obi’s claims are “maliciously deceptive“, and intended “bring down the government.” He cast the former Governor of Anambra State as “sulking” because he lost the 2023 election to the president.
Morka remarked that Peter Obi by his uncomplimentary assessments of government performance had “crossed the line so many times. At this time he has it coming; whatever is coming to him he has to manage it.” Obi considers the statement ominous to his safety.
In his statement on Monday, Obi asked “Have I crossed the line?“
“I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me. While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of ‘crossing the line’ and has warned that I will face the consequences.
“If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum. However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices.”
Obi further warned that Nigeria’s government under Tinubu is “increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed.”
“May God help us create a better and freer society for the sake of our children,” he prayed.
