Luke Littler made history as the youngest world champion in darts at just 17, beating three-time champion Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final at Alexandra Palace, London.

“Everyone dreams of lifting this trophy,” he said after winning the title and a prize of £500,000 ($620,000). “I can’t believe it.”
Hailing from Warrington, England, Littler first threw a dart at 18 months old and became the junior world champion in 2023.
He reached the world final last year at 16. Overcoming the pressure of returning to the final, he took an early lead against Van Gerwen, who praised Littler, noting, “Every 17 years a star gets born.”
Now, there’s speculation about whether Littler can challenge Phil Taylor’s record of 16 world titles. He earned substantial prize money, totaling over £1 million ($1.28 million) in 2024, and became Britain’s most-searched athlete on Google.
Littler, known as “Luke the Nuke,” still lives with his parents in Warrington, is a Manchester United fan, and has inspired a surge in youth darts participation, with the number of junior darts academies doubling in the past year.
