Nigerian Army Promotes 35 Brigadier Generals, 73 Colonels to Higher Ranks

On Thursday, the Nigerian Army Council approved the promotion of 35 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General and 73 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier General.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, announced this in a statement on Friday, December 20.

Promoted to Major General

The following Brigadier Generals were promoted to Major General:

  • Brig Gen A. Garba, Acting Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army
  • Brig Gen U.M. Alkali, Deputy Chief of Administration, Directorate of Veteran Affairs (Army)
  • Brig Gen A.G.L. Haruna, Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 North East Operation HADIN KAI
  • Brig Gen I.A. Ajose, Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 North West Operation FANSAN YAMA
  • Brig Gen N.B. Ebulue, Headquarters Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre
  • Brig Gen L.G. Lepdung, Commander Operation WHIRL STROKE
  • Brig Gen O.A. Awolo, Director Military Training Nigerian Defence Academy
  • Brig Gen U.G. Ogeleka, Commander Nigerian Army Space Command
  • Brig Gen O.A. Fadairo, Commander 12 Brigade
  • Brig Gen O.D. Williams, Commander 22 Brigade

Chief of Army Staff’s Remarks

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, congratulated the newly promoted senior officers and their families. He urged them to redouble their efforts to justify their elevation and the confidence reposed in them.

The army boss further tasked the officers with leading by example and developing innovative solutions to tackle contemporary security challenges. He emphasized their commitment to their oath of allegiance to defend the nation and maintain loyalty to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
