Israeli Massive Bombardment of Northwestern Syria Register as Earthquake on the Richter Scale

It was a massive explosion of Israeli bombing in Tartus, in northwestern Syria that registered as a 3.0 magnitude earthquake on seismic sensors on Sunday afternoon.

An astounding video captured a giant fireball in the sky as an Israeli airstrike targeted a Syrian munitions depot there.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported, “This was the heaviest strike in Syria’s coastal region since 2012.”

They noted that multiple Israeli airstrikes hit various sites as well, including air defence units and missile depots. The strikes are part of a series of bombardments by Israel on Syria since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Israeli forces launched approximately 300 airstrikes in just a week, focusing on military weapons and infrastructure. It claims they’re taking these actions to prevent Assad’s military equipment from “falling into the hands of extremists.”

SOHR indicated that airbases, a naval base, and a scientific research centre linked to chemical weapons were among the targets.

Israel’s UN ambassador characterized the strikes as “limited and temporary,” asserting that Israel does not intervene in the internal conflict in Syria.

However, Iran has bitterly protested the bombings, labelling them as “repeated violations” of Syrian sovereignty.

Qatar also criticized Israel, calling its operations “unacceptable” and an “exploitation” of Syria’s situation.

Amid these tensions, concerns about a potential resurgence of ISIS are real. UK lawmaker Jonathan Hall KC warned that “some of the most dangerous Islamic State fighters” are currently held in Syrian jails. He cautioned that if these fighters were released, they could form a new wave of ISIS.
