Manchester United Women put up a great performance to earn a well-deserved 4-0 victory over Liverpool Women in the Women’s Super League (WSL) at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, December 8.

The win was a much-needed boost for Marc Skinner’s side, which has faced criticism for their inconsistent form this season.

Before kick-off, the match began there was a touching tribute to the much-loved Kath Phipps, with a minute’s applause from the crowd. She passed away on December 5 at 85.

Manchester United Women: Phallon Tullis-Joyce (GK), Grace Clinton, Millie Turner, Ona Batlle, Leah Galton, Katie Zelem, Vilde Bøe Risa, Ella Toone, Geyse, Elisabeth Terland, Alessia Russo, and substitute Melvine Malard.

How the Match Unfolded

The contest kicked off with both sides taking a cautious approach, probing for weaknesses in the first half-hour. United broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, with Elisabeth Terland delivering a stunning curling shot from outside the box that found the bottom corner.

Just over a minute later, Leah Galton extended the lead with a thunderous finish after receiving an expertly placed pass from Dominique Janssen.

Liverpool had a daunting task, compounded by injuries to key players, and struggled to mount a response. United maintained their grip on the game in the second half, with Dominique Janssen netting her first goal of the season in the 59th minute.

The scoring was capped off in the 81st minute when substitute Melvine Malard struck with a volley from the back post, sealing a comprehensive victory.
