Leicester City produced a dramatic comeback to draw 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, December 08. The match was thrilling, and Brighton dominate most of the game, only for Leicester City to stage a stunning comeback in the final minutes.

The result keeps Leicester City’s new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy unbeaten, while Brighton slips to seventh place.

Lineups

Leicester City: Mads Hermansen, James Justin, Wout Faes, Harry Souttar, Ryan Thomas, Boubakary Soumare, Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet, Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Bart Verbruggen, Tariq Lamptey, Jan Paul van Hecke, Lewis Dunk, Pervis Estupiñán, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Kaoru Mitoma, Joao Pedro, Evan Ferguson.

How the Match Unfolded

Brighton held sway from the start, creating several scoring chances in the first half. Tariq Lamptey gave Brighton the lead in the 37th minute with a spectacular left-footed strike, curling the ball into the far top corner from outside the box after cutting inside following a clever pass from Pervis Estupiñán.

Brighton continued to build on their strong performance after the break, with Yankuba Minteh doubling the lead in the 79th minute after a superb jinking run ended with him hammering home with his left foot.

However, Leicester City staged a dramatic comeback in the final minutes. Jamie Vardy scored in the 86th minute, latching on to James Justin’s deflected cross to slot across visiting keeper Bart Verbruggen.

HIGHLIGHTS of ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH | LEICESTER vs BRIGHTON 2-2 Draw

The momentum had shifted, and Leicester City equalized in added time through Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who tapped home Vardy’s square pass to stun Brighton and send the King Power Stadium into raptures.

Post-Match Analysis

The draw was a fair result, given the dramatic turnaround in the final minutes. Brighton’s failure to win despite dominating the match for most of the game will be a concern for head coach Fabian Huerzeler.

The Seagulls created several scoring opportunities, but their inability to kill off the game ultimately cost them. Leicester City’s comeback was inspired by Jamie Vardy, who scored and assisted in the second. Vardy’s experience and composure were indispensable in the final minutes as he rolled a pass across for De Cordova-Reid to tap home the equalizer.

The result keeps Leicester City’s new manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, unbeaten, and the Foxes will look to continue their momentum in their next match. Conversely, Brighton will have to bounce back from the draw and stay in the top-four hunt.

What the Coaches Said

Ruud van Nistelrooy was grateful to Jamie Vardy; “If you are on the scoresheet and make an assist, then you have to say this result would not be possible without him.

Fabian Huerzeler took responsibility for the draw, saying, “We needed to be more mature and finish off the games… It’s our fault and we have to take responsibility.”

Player of the Match

Jamie Vardy was the standout player in the match, scoring and assisting in Leicester City’s comeback.
