On Tuesday, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Agency discovered a warehouse holding ₦1 billion worth of palliative rice.
The warehouse, located on Ring Road in Nasarawa Local Government Area, was sealed off during an operation led by Chairman Muhuyi Rimin-Gado.
The agency found bags of rice featuring President Bola Tinubu‘s picture and the words “Ramadan Kareem.”
Rimin-Gado told reporters, “The facility was filled with 28 trucks of rice allegedly diverted by individuals for re-bagging. This is a clear form of corruption because this is property meant for the public.”
“Given today’s hardships, someone has the audacity to start re-bagging it,” he lamented.
The agency also recovered a re-bagging machine apparently used to repack the palliative price for sale.
Rimin-Gado said, “We are here based on our investigative activities. We have our search warrant, arrest warrant, and court order.” He said the agency would investigate further to identify those responsible.
“For now, we have arrested one person, and we will ensure we uncover those behind this theft,” he said.
