The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has spoken about Iran’s harmful activities spreading beyond the Middle East to Africa, especially Nigeria. He claimed that Iranian forces were “working to destabilize” Nigeria.
Freeman made these comments in Abuja during the screening of a documentary film title “We Will Dance Again: Surviving October 7th.” This event marked the first anniversary of Hamas’s attack on Israel, during which terrorists abducted several Israeli citizens.
Initially, 396 people were taken hostage by Hamas during the attack, but some of the hostages were later released. The United States and the United Nations helped facilitate negotiations for their release. At least 101 hostages remain captive and are being used for negotiations with Israel.
Describing Iranian leaders as “tyrants,” Freeman said their proxies, like Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, are responsible for chaos in various nations, leading to immense suffering for millions, including in Nigeria.
“The tyrants in Tehran are responsible for the destabilization of countries and the misery of millions.” He further asserted, “Iran’s nefarious activities are not limited to the Middle East. Iran’s leaders are also working to destabilize Western Africa, including here in Nigeria,” he alleged.

Freeman also addressed the situation in Lebanon, where Israel has extended its military actions against Hamas’s allies. He said that Israel’s attacks would only stop if “the full implementation of UN resolution 1701” is achieved, which calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah and ensuring that the Lebanese army controls southern Lebanon.
He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government and the U.S. for their support during Israel’s ongoing conflicts.
“Over the past year, the support shown by President Biden, as well as by Republicans and Democrats alike, has been overwhelming,” he said. Freeman also thanked friends in Nigeria for their support.
“This is not a war we wanted. This is not a war we started. Hamas and Hezbollah attacked Israel,” he said. He described the situation faced by Israel as “a war on seven fronts – all of it sponsored by Iran.”
