Arne Slot’s era continued impressively as Liverpool secured another victory against Brighton following their 3-2 win in the League Cup.

This time, the Reds triumphed with a 2-1 comeback win in the English Premiership encounter on Saturday, November 2, showcasing their resilience and tactical adaptability.

Lineups

Liverpool: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo

Brighton: Verbruggen; Veltman, van Hecke, Estupinan, Kadioglu; Hinshelwood, Ayari, Mitoma, Rutter, Welbeck

How the Match Unfolded

Darwin Nunez had the first chance of the game, with the Liverpool striker going through on goal after lifting the ball past Veltman and pushing past Kadioglu, but Verbruggen pushed his effort over the bar.

Brighton took the lead in the first half, courtesy of Ferdi Kadioglu, who scored an outrageous effort to put the Seagulls in front. The second half saw the Reds push for an equalizer, with Mac Allister going close. At the same time, Brighton almost doubled their lead via Welbeck and Rutter’s efforts.

Verbruggen was the hero following Salah’s one-on-one opportunity, with the keeper making himself big to keep the score at 1-0. Liverpool finally turned the game around in 128 seconds, with the first coming after Cody Gakpo’s cross fortuitously entered the goal. Salah scored a left-footed strike after a fast break.

Post-Match Analysis

Brighton should have won the game, but their lack of clinical finishing proved costly as they couldn’t hold on to the lead. Their shape provided an excellent outlet on the counterattack after beating the press from Liverpool, and their wingers got much joy down the flanks.

Mo Salah won the Player of the Match

Liverpool’s philosophy of controlling the game was not evident in this match. Still, Slot’s adaptability to using transitions proved effective, as seen with the two goals scored when he brought in Curtis Jones and Luiz Diaz, two direct players who eventually played a huge part in the second goal.
