A chilling video captured the collapse of a two-storey building on Amusu Street in Orile Iganmu, Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, this Monday morning, October 14.

It remains unclear if anyone was trapped and under what circumstances the live video was recorded.

The Lagos State National Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has arrived at the scene amid the confusion caused by the collapse. The agency says it has no record of casualties at this time.

Amateur video of the collapse captured in real-time

Building collapses are an all-too-common scenario in Lagos State, Nigeria’s most densely populated city state.

Shabby structural work, incompetent builders, compromised quality materials, and aging structures have been identified as causative factors.

No reasons have yet been established for this Monday’s collapse.
