Nigerian singer, comedian, and content creator, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been detained by the police over alleged cyberstalking of fellow musician, Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy.
Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos and taken to Abuja, where he is being held at the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team. Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has taken up the case, stating that there was nothing in the petition to warrant Darlington’s arrest.
Adeyanju confirmed that Speed Darlington was arrested following a petition filed by Burna Boy after he made a video questioning Burna Boy’s Grammy award win, suggesting it was influenced by his relationship with American rapper, Diddy.
Speed Darlington’s mother, Queen, had earlier alleged that Burna Boy and his team were responsible for her son’s disappearance, begging Burna Boy to release her son in a video message.
“Nigerians please come and help me, my son Speed Darlington has been missing for over 4 days now after he made a video about Burna Boy and Diddy,” Queen pleaded.
Adeyanju condemned Burna Boy’s actions, stating, “You can’t be singing against oppressors and still be an oppressor.” He emphasized that nobody should be arrested for expressing their views or opinions.
Diddy once said Nigerian Rapper, Speed Darlington inspires him.
