The First Lady of Akwa Ibom State and wife to Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Patience Umo Eno, has passed away. The cause of her death has not been disclosed. The state Commissioner for Information, Ini Ememobong, announced her death in a statement issued early Friday.

Patience Umo Eno died on September 26, 2024, at a hospital, surrounded by her family. The statement, titled “Unexpected Sunset,” expressed the family’s grief and requested privacy during this difficult time. The family also asked for prayers and support from the public.

Governor Umo Eno expressed his gratitude to those who have supported the family and assured citizens that his commitment to serving the state remains steadfast despite this personal loss.

Patience Umo Eno was fondly known as Eka Iberedem Akwa Ibom, meaning “Mother and Strong Pillar of Akwa Ibom.” She founded the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), a foundation focused on providing shelter, food, and education to the poor and vulnerable in Akwa Ibom. Her feeding initiative, which started on a small scale, expanded to feed hundreds of children daily, ensuring no child in her care went to bed hungry.

She dedicated herself to the educational advancement of underprivileged children, sponsoring their tuition fees, providing school supplies, and ensuring they had the opportunity to succeed academically. She also initiated several vocational and financial empowerment programs aimed at helping women in her community gain skills and financial independence.

Through her commitment to helping others, she inspired numerous volunteers to join her causes, thereby extending the reach and impact of her humanitarian efforts.

Together with Governor Umo Bassey Eno, they had six children and nine grandchildren, all of whom were involved in her philanthropic activities.
