A Publicity Secretary of a faction of Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has issued a scathing response to recent comments by party stalwart and activist, Aisha Yesufu, following allegations of mismanagement of funds during the 2023 presidential campaign.

Arabambi described Yesufu as “irredeemable” and accused her of being part of a “criminal conspiracy” involving the diversion of campaign funds. The press statement accused Tuesday, September 12, alleged misappropriation of over ₦12 billion and $15 million, funds supposedly meant for the party’s campaign.

According to Arabambi, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo and a faction of Afenifere – the Yoruba socio-cultural organization led by Pa Ayo Adebanjo, were also implicated in the alleged financial mismanagement.

Yesufu had earlier claimed that the Labour Party’s Chairman, Julius Abure, was making false accusations about the campaign funds without fact-checking. However, Arambabi dismissed her rebuttal, criticizing her involvement in the campaign fund as a “shame to womanhood.”

He called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and even the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to investigate the accounts and possibly acts of terrorism financing. He urged Nigerians to be aware of these internal disputes as they prepare for the next political cycle.

This public spat and the expletives used by Mr. Arabambi on party members including the respected former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, suggests a deepening internal rift within the Labour Party.

Mr Arambabi was aligned to a faction of the party led by Alhaji Lamido Apapa who claimed rightful Chairmanship of the party against Mr. Abure. Both Arambabi and Apapa strangely opposed their party’s legal contest in court over the victory of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
