A tanker explosion occurred on the Lapai-Agaie road in Niger State, resulting in over 48 deaths and over 50 cattle being burnt alive.
The incident occurred around 12:30 am Sunday morning, and involved a petrol tanker colliding with a truck carrying passengers and cattle.
The trailer, en route to Lagos, was heavily impacted, leading to a massive explosion. Two other vehicles, a crane truck, and a pickup van, were also caught in the inferno.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and Local Government Emergency Committees (LGEMCs) immediately dispatched a Rapid Response Team (RRT) to the scene.
Governor Umaru Bago expressed sadness and urged road users to be cautious and abide by traffic regulations to safeguard lives and property. He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and quick recovery for those injured.
