Mr. Aribibia Fubara, a Director of the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service, has been kidnapped by Unknown Gunmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, according to the Nigerian Police Force.
Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesman for the Rivers Police Command, informed reporters on Monday, “Yes, the command is aware of the incident. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of all tactical units and alerted all area commanders to ensure he is rescued unhurt,” the police spokesperson was quoted as saying.
“Also, the CP has given them an order to ensure the suspects are apprehended and make them face the law,” she confidently added.
Fubara was abducted by gunmen who reportedly came through the Okirika Waterfront in a speedboat to the Marine Base axis of Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The gunmen, about six in number, invaded the area and shot indiscriminately into the air, scaring away people.
On arrival , the hoodlums quickly identified their target, whisked him into their boat, and zoomed off.
The abductors had yet to make any contact with the family of their captive as of the time of this report – a worrying situation to the captive’s family and an embarrassment to the Rivers State government.
It is unclear if Mr. Aribibia shares any family relationship with Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who has been locked in disputes with some powerful political forces in the state.
