The Akwa Ibom State Government has received a new Airbus A220-300 series aircraft for its state-owned airline, Ibom Air. This brings the number of modern aircraft in its fleet to seven and solidifies Ibom Air as one of Nigeria’s leading carriers.

Governor Umo Eno, the head of the state delegation that received the aircraft, praised the airline’s growth and expansion and urged all Akwa Ibomites to be grateful to God and support the airline.

The governor pledged to continuously assist the airline and also prioritize the state’s tourism and investment opportunities, saying the state is the destination of choice.

Reflecting on the airline’s success story since its inception five years ago, he added, “Ibom Air remains a model of how best government should run business, and we will soon use the same model in the state-owned specialist hospital.”

The governor paid tribute to his predecessor and visioner of the airline business, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for his resilience in establishing the airline despite the barrage of criticisms that trailed the vision at the time.

He used the occasion to announce plans to establish an Aviation Village near Victor Attah International Airport as part of his government’s efforts to expand the state’s aviation ecosystem.

Governor Eno said his government is working towards completing the repairs, and overhauling the hanger, MRO, and the new international terminal building. He also wants to remodel the airport clinic in line with the airport’s new international standards.

Furthermore, he commended security agencies, royal fathers, religious leaders, youths, and elders for making the state peaceful.

The arrival of the additional A220-300 series Airbus in Ibom Air’s fleet was a much-needed boost to improving flight schedule efficiency, according to Captain Mfon Udom, the airline’s Managing Director, who addressed the gathering of state officials and businessmen.

Beyond adding two new destinations to the routes of Ibom Air later this year, the aircraft will boost services on existing routes,” said Captain Udom.

He appreciated the airlines’ financial partners, Fidelity Bank and Union Bank, who helped facilitate the acquisition of the new aircraft.
