The Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is in Equatorial Guinean for a three-day working visit to the neighboring African country.
He met with President Teodoro Mbasogo Thursday, and signed an agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project in Malabo, affirming their bilateral partnership for mutual development.
The agreement covers legislative and regulatory measures for the gas pipeline, its establishment and operation, transit natural gas transit, ownership of the pipeline, and general principles.
President Tinubu said the signing will open new gas exploration and employment opportunities.
During a private meeting, the two leaders discussed employment, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution mechanisms on the continent. They discussed promoting peace and stability in their countries and growth and prosperity on the continent.
The discussion also covered security challenges, the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), and food security.
“In the same way that Europe and America have kept themselves and found a solution for their conflicts, we have to look at inadequate capital, industrialization efforts, research and development programs, enlighten our people, and navigate our way through problems.
“Instead of the crisis and conflicts that we see in the Republic of Congo and others, we have to look inwards to solve problems ourselves,’’ the President said.
Both leaders agreed to work together within Africa and the African Union to ensure solutions to many problems in Africa come from within.
Equatorial Guinea’s President said bilateral relations with Nigeria have been rewarding and highlighted the need to deepen cooperation across salient areas.
President Mbasogo emphasized Africa’s vision of having a permanent seat in the Security Council of the United Nations as vital for the continent’s development and stated that Equatorial Guinea would work with Nigeria to realize this objective.
The signing of the agreement was seen as strategic for Africa’s development.
The president is due to return to Nigeria on Friday, August 16.
